People tend to talk to a counsellor when their own efforts at resolving personal problems have not worked.

They may not feel they can share the issue with their friends or family and it is beginning to have a negative impact on their life.

Counselling is simply a time set aside from everyday life to meet with a person who has specialist training in helping explore issues that may feel overwhelming or unmanageable. A diagnosis or referral for counselling is not necessary.

A counsellor is a supportive “sounding board” offering the rare gift of an undistracted listener. In this collaborative relationship unrecognized strengths and resources often emerge and lead to clearer choices.
